LinkedIn “Get Connected”: Section 6 – Adding Connections – Other Methods

Advanced Search

Another way to build your LinkedIn network is to search for people who you know. You can search for people by name, company name, school, industry, location, etc., using the Advanced Search Feature.

Let’s take a look at this feature and see how easy it is to find the connections you want to make.

Here are the fields you can choose from when searching:

Keywords: Search for people who have specific specialties ex: SEO

First Name: Self Explanatory

Last Name: Self Explanatory

Location: Choose either “Everywhere” or within a mile radius of a zip code

Title: Title in company

Company: Company worked for or workig for

School: Schools attended

Industries: Select from drop down if relevant

You may search for people in any number of ways, so the sky is really the limit with who you can meet.

Connect through “Connections”

This might sound a little strange, but you can actually search your Connections “Connections”. While searching you may invite them to connect or even “Request an Introduction”

Introductions let you contact users in your network, through the people you know. If you want to contact a LinkedIn user who is two or three degrees away from you, you can request an introduction through one of your connections. Your connection will, in turn, decide whether to forward it on to the desired recipient (if in your 2nd degree) or to a shared connection (if in your 3rd degree).

“People You May Know”

LinkedIn also attempts to suggest connections for you. Based on your network of friends, and other factors, these suggestions will popup on the right side of your screen.

If one of these suggestions seems valid to you, simply click the “invite” link next to their name!

In my next LinkedIn post, We will go over LinkedIn Groups.
