The Internet is full of social communities, and each serves a specific purpose. Some are there for chatting with friends, some are there to find love, others help you to connect with people who share a common interest. LinkedIn is a social community that means business. I mean this quite literally; it’s a social community for business professionals in almost any niche or industry.
LinkedIn allows you to establish professional relationships with likeminded individuals. Whether you are looking for a job, a business partner, a joint venture, or anything in between LinkedIn is the answer you have been looking for. LinkedIn allows you to virtually connect with people who may be far more difficult to connect with offline. Herein lies the magic of the professional development power of LinkedIn.
Have you ever talked “shop” with someone about your shared line of work? Someone who “gets it” someone who simply can relate to the work you do on every level? I don’t know about you, but I love talking shop and LinkedIn
is an almost limitless pool of potentially likeminded individuals who you can meet. Imagine having a problem and simply asking someone (who you simply would have never met otherwise) for a little hand or some guidance?
This would be quite helpful for day to day work right? How about this, you are going on a job interview, and you would like to be 100% ready. Using LinkedIn you can “connect” with current employees of that company and get a feel for how things work there. Maybe they can pull a string or two, or maybe they can even alert you of jobs before they are publicly announced! Building relationships on LinkedIn is the key to success for many who are in the hunt for advancement or a new job.
Imagine that, just because you helped someone or answered a question, or they simply liked you as a person, you get the inside track to an opening. It’s possible, trust me, it’s the nature of LinkedIn. Professional Networking
at its virtual finest. Using LinkedIn you can connect with classmates, ex or current colleagues, and much more. Maybe your old friend has the “in” somewhere and he or she might be willing to put in a good word for you. You never know until you try. This too is the power of LinkedIn.
So are you ready to get started? Yup I thought so! Let’s get this show on the road. In my next articles, I will go through, step by step, how to sign up to LinkedIn and setup your profile. Then we will dive into all the activities that will help you grow your network quickly and efficiently and with the right people. Sounds like fun right? If you do not have an account yet click here.
