LinkedIn “Get Connected”: Section 2 – Connect With Contacts and Invite Friends

This article will show you how you connect with contacts in LinkedIn. Before you read this make sure to read the first part of this totorial. Click here to read the first part.

Before you do this step, allow me to explain why it is crucial. Most of us have a list of contacts in our email account. Perhaps they are friends, colleagues, family, or clients. LinkedIn allows you to (in seconds) invite these contacts to “Connect” with you on LinkedIn.

From personal experience, some of my best connections came from this step. You will be amazed with how many people on your email contact list are already “LinkedIn”.

The key to LinkedIn is quality connections, and this step allows you to add many in one very simple click of a mouse.

How does it work? Simple. Enter your full email address (Ex: TheGrossLife@gmail.com) and the password for that email address. LinkedIn needs you to enter the password you use to login to your email so that they can SECURELY look through the contacts to see who is LinkedIn! Don’t worry it’s safe and LinkedIn wont save the password. So now you have two choices:

1. Enter your email address AND email password When the new screen loads (assuming you entered a valid email and password) Place a checkmark next to each person you would like to invite to connect with you. then press “Add Connection(s)”

2. Simply press “Skip this step” if you prefer to add connections later.

I personally recommend you do this, as it gives you the head start you need!

In the next screen, you will be given the opportunity to add connections to users which LinkedIn thinks you may know. This is another way to reconnect to someone you may know that is not in your email address book. So choose those who you think you may need connections to and then on to the next step.

Now you are given the opportunity to invite those on your email contacts list to join LinkedIn – the people on this list are not yet LinkedIn, so invite those who you feel will benefit from the immense power of LinkedIn. You have two choices here:

1. Place a checkbox next to all contacts whom you would like to invite and then press “Invite to Connect”

OR

2. Skip this step

After inviting contacts from your email address, you will be directed to the next step which is to add connections on existing LinkedIn users which you may know. The screen will look like the Adding Connections

LinkedIn gives you the opportunity to invite email contacts manually. In case there is someone who didnt show up on your contact list, simply add their email here to invite them to join.

Use comma separated values like this:
email1@aol.com,email2@yahoo.com

You can optionally add a custom invite message to personalize it a little more. It’s totally up to you!

Then press “Send Invitations”

OR

You could simply “Skip this step”

Well this was the last step of the signup! Next we will take a look at the Member interface of LinkedIn!
